Klaus Kinski hits St Paul

How did I meet Finley?

It seems so long ago now.

Actually his wife was my famlies doctor.

I don't remember how it came up, but the Doc mentioned she was having trouble with a landscaping project.

When I found out she only lived a couple of miles away....I volunteered to check it out.

To make a long story short, I ended up living in the Frazin / Finley yard for a couple of weeks.

Back then Mike was working at home, out of an office that is about 14 stories high.

So throughout the day, every once in awile I saw a set of eyes peering down at me, checking out the projects progress.

I don't think Finley surfaced for the first few days, but on the day he did, and I don't remember how we got on the topic, but we started talking about German cinema.

I was in a heavy Werner Herzog / Klaus Kinski phase, and as I talked about the reasons why they influenced me, I could tell by Finleys comments that we were in complete agreement, but he had just traveled down this avenue a decade before me.

During that first conversation....I learned 2 things about this guy.

He was bullet proof, but he was vunerable.

When he left me to return to his tower, I had to chuckle as I bulldozed my way through shrubs.....

"This guy is me in 15 years."

The following day we dialed down the intensity lever and discussed the complete catalog of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardey.

  1. I remember feeling that Rachel was violating every privacy rule, allowing patient's husbands to break up a sidewalk.

I think you're right, the most powerful impetus to friendship is the willingness to like the same stupid things.

I don't know how normal people do it.

And hey, that sidewalk is still on the ground where you left it.
